Our Story

Built for the way
Sri Lanka really sells.

Storemate is a multi-channel order and delivery platform made specifically for Sri Lankan online sellers. This is the problem we set out to solve, and why it matters.

The opportunity

Sri Lanka's e-commerce
is booming.

Sri Lanka's e-commerce sector generated USD 4.18 billion in 2025 and is growing 20 to 25% year on year. More than 8 million Sri Lankans now shop online, served by an estimated 150,000 to 250,000 active sellers across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Daraz.

Yet over 90% of these sellers still manage orders, inventory, customer chats, and deliveries through fragmented, manual processes: messaging apps, spreadsheets, paper records, and several courier portals that do not talk to each other. These methods work at low volumes, but they break down as a business grows.

The problem

Manual operations quietly
drain profit.

The cost is direct and measurable. Sri Lankan sellers face return and failed-delivery rates of 15 to 25% of all orders, driven mainly by COD refusal at the doorstep, a problem DHL Sri Lanka calls "increasingly unsustainable" for growing businesses.

For a seller doing 200 orders a month, a 20% return rate alone erodes 6.4% of gross monthly revenue. Manual work eats over 60% of a staff member's day on waybills, COD reconciliation, and tracking orders across disconnected platforms, and sellers running three or more channels lose track of 5 to 15% of orders every week.

Total operational losses for a medium-volume seller reach Rs. 1.87 million per year, up to 31% of annual gross revenue. An entirely preventable cost.

The gap

No existing tool was
built for Sri Lanka.

International platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce were built for markets with integrated payments and standardised logistics. They do not support Sri Lanka's COD-dominant, multi-courier, social-commerce reality. Local alternatives solve only isolated pieces of the problem.

The result: fewer than 10% of Sri Lankan online sellers use any dedicated order management software, leaving over 90% without the tools they need to scale.

The solution

One platform that
connects it all.

Storemate connects sellers, inventory, couriers, and customers in a single platform. Affordable, scalable, and easy to use.

Sustainability

Fewer failed deliveries,
lower emissions.

Storemate is good for more than the bottom line. By reducing failed deliveries and unnecessary redelivery attempts, it lowers fuel consumption, vehicle use, and carbon emissions across Sri Lanka's last-mile network. Even small drops in the national return rate add up to thousands of avoided delivery trips, creating a cleaner, more efficient e-commerce supply chain.

The vision

From seller
to Entrepreneur.

Our bigger goal is to turn Sri Lankan online sellers into entrepreneurs. A seller processes orders. An entrepreneur builds a brand, understands customer behaviour, manages performance through data, and makes informed decisions that drive long-term growth. Storemate is the infrastructure for that change, giving SMEs the tools, data, and professional credibility to compete and scale sustainably.

Storemate is more than a commercial platform. It is a nationally relevant intervention for an underserved part of Sri Lanka's digital economy. By cutting operational waste, improving delivery success, strengthening SME resilience, and enabling data-driven entrepreneurship, it supports digital transformation, inclusive economic growth, and logistics sustainability. With support from the National Science Foundation, this locally built product can be further developed, validated, and scaled, generating measurable economic and social impact nationwide.
